If you would like to check your credit for NO COST you can click here. This will send you to a SECURE SITE (hence the https, the s means secure) that is available through the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act (FACT Act). This act allows consumers to request and obtain a free credit report once every 12 months from each of the three nationwide consumer credit reporting companies (Equifax, Experian and TransUnion).
What’s the Catch?
With most things in life that are free, there is a catch.Your reports will be free, but I found it took at least 30 minutes to work on the information to get the reports.I can personally walk you through this process if you need help, so don’t hesitate to call. The website will ask you questions about old addresses, credit card accounts/balances, and old mortgages(if applicable) to verify your identity. It would be good to have your credit card account numbers available if they ask for those numbers. After entering the data, you will be presented with a summary page that tells your credit summary. The summary gives you just that a summary of all your accounts (new, old, inactive) and is a good way to check to see that there are no errors. If there are errors, you need to take action. If you need help in this area, call or e-mail me and I will find out who and what you need to do to correct the error.
At the end of the summary section there are some options to BUY things. You are not obligated to buy anything that Equifax, Experian and TransUnion are offering. Remember this is not something you HAVE to do, just something you could purchase. After reviewing, checking for errors and printing out your information you will have a much better idea of your credit record. If you do have questions, I am always around to help, just call or leave me an e-mail.
